Un'antifona a 4 voci dal Corale di Eton, un manoscritto del 1502, ad opera di Walter Lambe, compositore inglese di fine '400, le cui composizioni dimostrano una notevole maestria nel contrappunto, probabilmente maggiore dei suoi contemporanei come Browne o Davy. In questo brano in particolare sembra voler lasciare alle voci anche una certa libertà immaginifica, quasi da solisti.
E' uno dei rari brani musicali cristiani in cui si invoca l'aiuto della Vergine per salvare il suo popolo da una pestilenza. Il testo non è probabilmente più antico dei primi anni del '400, quando una grave pestilenza afflisse il Portogallo, e fu diffuso da Clarisse e Francescani.
La giustapposizione tra testo e melodia è in più parti una mia interpretazione. Interessante anche l'uso delle chiavette nelle parti (la chiave di DO su secondo, terzo, quarto e quinto rigo) corrispondenti indicativamente alle voci "centrali" di mezzosoprano, contralto, tenore e baritono.

A 4-voices antiphone by Walter Lambe, a master in late 15th century counterpoint, contained in Eton's Choirbook (1502). The text, inviting the Virgin Mary to protect the people from a pandemy, was probably written in Portugal at the begin of the 15th century and from there shared by Poor Clares and Franciscans friars. 
In the parts movable C clef is used for the voices of mezzo, alto, tenor and baritone. The juxtapposition of text was sometimes inferred by myself.
Here's an approximate translation of the text: 

The Star of Heaven who gave milk to the Lord,
eradicated the deadly plague that the father of men brought into the world.
Deign now, you, the same Star, to placate the sky,
which angrily with the earth destroys peoples with the cruel plague of death.
O most compassionate Star of the sea, help us from the plague.
Be propitious to our prayers, O Lady, because your Son,
that nothing denies you, honors you.
O Jesus, save us, for us the Virgin your Mother prays to you.
